Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced asbestos surveyor/analyst who is motivated, hardworking and quality focused, to join our asbestos department. You will provide scientific inspection, analysis, and consultancy services as appropriate to our customers and be responsible for carrying out surveys to a range of building types and four stage clearance air testing.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • To follow documented work instructions to meet agreed quality standards ISO 17020/17025 and deliver performance objectives.
  • To perform on-site assessments, sampling, analysis, interpretations and testing to ensure compliance with the relevant standards.
  • To liaise with customers to agree a course of action, based on professional judgement, which meets their requirements.
  • To promote continuous improvement by monitoring work instructions, procedures and working practices identifying and implementing improvements.
  • To ensure that staff working with the postholder are aware of their health and safety responsibilities and to bring any concerns about H&S issues to the attention of the appropriate manager.
  • To carry out investigations, analysis, examinations: research and development as required.
  • To be involved in the organisation of training programmes, and train and authorise staff as required.
  • To report findings together with any professional opinions and interpretations accordingly.
  • To take part in internal and external proficiency trials.
  • To ccarry outrisk and COSHH assessments as required.
  • To keep up to date with new and proposed legislation, scientific and technological developments, which are likely to affect the work of Gully Howard Technical.
  • To be involved in the organisation of training programmes, and train and authorise staff as required.
  • To liaise with customers in order to establish contract requirements as required by the Managing Director.
  • To report findings together with any professional opinions and interpretations accordingly.
  • To help document, audit, review and suggest improvements to work instructions, procedures, and working practices


A highly experienced individual with project management background is desirable however we will be considering all applicants with a minimum of six months appropriate experience in clearance testing and surveying who hold relevant qualifications including a combination of the following;

  • P402: Asbestos surveying
  • P403: Asbestos Fibre Counting (PCM) (including Sampling Strategies)
  • P404: Air Sampling and Requirements for a Certificate of Reoccupation Following Clearance of Asbestos
  • RSPH Certificate for Asbestos Analysts
  • RSPH Certificate in Asbestos Surveying
  • S301/W504 plus BOHS Certificate of Competence in Asbestos

  • Excellent attention to detail
